Mayo Male Voice Choir tenth anniversary celebrations coming up

The Mayo Male Voice Choir will celebrate their 10th anniversary this year and to mark the occasion they have lined up a very special grand concert in the Royal Theatre on Thursday April 22 at 8.30pm. The concert will see the choir joined on stage by the Mayo Concert Orchestra and the ladies of the Castlebar parish choir in eight part harmony for some magnificent popular numbers.

Commit to music this autumn

The Mayo Concert Orchestra has returned to practice this week, with weekly practices every Wednesday from 7.30pm in St Patrick’s BNS, Castlebar. Alternatively if you would like to learn an instrument there are beginner classes held every Saturday morning for both adults and children. An open day for these classes will be held on Saturday September 20 at 11.30pm in St Patrick’s BNS and classes will commence on Saturday September 27.

Unique remembrance concert at the Royal Theatre

Mayo Remembrance Concert is a unique event which will take place in the Royal Castlebar Theatre and Event Centre on Monday, October 6. This special concert is being held in honour of all those from County Mayo who served and died in both world wars and in the many conflicts of the past century in the cause of world peace. The fallen will be permanently commemorated in the Mayo Peace Park Garden of Remembrance which will be officially opened on the following day by the President of Ireland, Mary McAleese.

The Mayo Male Voice Choir back in rehearsal

The Mayo Male Voice Choir start the 2008/2009 season with rehearsals in the Galway/Mayo Regional College, Castlebar this Thursday the September 11 and every Thursday at 8pm. New members are always welcome; auditions take place on the first two Thursday evenings.With 46 members we now have a great sound and the future looks good. Our new repertoire includes some Irish favourites like “Danny Boy” and “The West’s Asleep”, with hits from the musicals and of course the great male voice coral numbers like “ Do You Hear the People Sing” from “Les Miserables” and “The Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves” from Nabucco, we are also rehearsing Handel’s famous Hallelujah Chorus. and many more excellent numbers to add to our already large repertoire. This gives our Musical Director Deirdre Lee a great challenge, which she has proved she is well capable of handling. We have also launched our new website, at www.mayomalevoicechoir.com.
